Lot #1
In 1843, Pleasant Hill was first platted. The following information is Lot #1.
On the northwest corner of Main and Monument streets was the Whitmer Hardware. For more than 30 years it was owned by Lewis Whitmer. This was Pleasant Hill's first filling station pump.

Charles and Hubert Long ran a restaurant, pool hall and ice cream parlor. Others who were in this location were: Hoeflick, Yount, Seng, Mintchell, Kendig, Driver, and Shuff. The restaurant was closed in 1959.

Roy Hess owned the building in the 60’s. His daughter Judy started a beauty Shop in Doctor Albert J. Bausman’s old office.
Edward Sampson started his hardware store and plumbing business in 1962 in this building.
The building was torn down in 2008 as part of a city beautification project
Today, the area is a green space and parking lot for the library.
